'Watch Dogs 2' Gets Free Multiplayer Mode And More Content

Mar 31, 2017 03:31 PM EDT

Ubisoft's sequel to the Watch Dogs franchise was fairly successful with its release since the developers were desperate to make sure there were no hiccups during the launch, unlike its previous sequel. "Watch Dogs 2" was initially released worldwide in November 2016. While it's definitely better than its predecessor in the story as well as combat, somehow the game didn't manage to hit the popularity that the developers expected it to achieve.

A report from Kotaku still believes that the launch event for "Watch Dogs 2" didn't go quite as planned, which might be the reason why the developers now have decided to introduce planned "pay-to-play" content for free in order to capture more audience for their latest title.

The report revealed that content that was previously decided to be introduced for paying customers is now just rolled out to everyone for free instead of bringing out a "season pass." However, people who have purchased Deluxe or a better variant of the game will still see some exclusive content for them.

Meanwhile, details from IGN go in-depth about the new multiplayer mode in "Watch Dogs 2" that's being introduced to the players. "Showd0wn" - a multiplayer mode that's designed for experienced players looking for an ultimate challenge will be available for free across all platforms on Apr. 17, which will offer three competitive matches. One among the three is also supposedly a King-of-the-hill style match called Doomload, which reportedly requires users to erase or protect the servers.

The developers in a statement have said that the community had requested for more multiplayer content, which was the reason why they decided to introduce new content for free, rather than rolling them out as a part of a DLC. "Watch Dogs 2" in all ways might be better and also superior to "Watch Dogs," but looking at its sales and other statistics, the decision to introduce new content for free makes more sense.
