Sony Xperia XZ vs. Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge: Battle of Two High-End Beasts

The Sony Xperia XZ is the new flagship in the high-end smartphone market: and it comes dressed in a new and shines metal armor, sporting a brand new camera and battery which aims to stand the test of time not just for a day or two. It's meant to remain healthy in the long run. The Xperia XZ shapes up to be more than ever a valid rival to the big guys in town, mainly Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.

The Sony Xperia XZ sports a similar OmniBalance design to previous Sony flagships but with a squarer top and bottom. It is coming with a brushed metal finish, measures146 x 72 x 8.1mm in the size and weighs at 161g.

A fingerprint sensor sits within the side power button, USB Type-C is on board and the Xperia XZ has a water and dust resistance rating of IP68. On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge also has IP68 waterproof ratings and has metal bodies with a Corning Gorilla Glass 4 back panel. The fingerprint sensor comes in the main button on the front of the device and it also supports Micro-USB over USB-Type C, according to Pocket-lint.

The Sony Xperia XZ features a 5.2-inch display and a Full HD resolution, meaning a pixel density of 424ppi. It is an LCD display and it has Sony's Triluminos and X-Reality technologies. IThere are larger bezels above and below sides the display, though. While Samsung Galaxy S7 edge also has a Quad HD display and Super AMOLED technology but its size increases to 5.5-inches for a pixel density of 534ppi. The device is also curved, which makes for a much more exciting design with some extra software functions, as per Phone Arena.

The Sony Xperia XZ powers a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor with 3GB of RAM and 32GB or 64GB of internal storage which is expandable via microSD for up to 256GB. It also has a battery of around 2900mAh and Sony has introduced a new battery management system for its new device, as per NDTV.

However, the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge comes with either the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chip or an Exynos processor, depending on the region. The device boasts 4GB of RAM on board and a choice of 32GB of 64GB internal memory, both of which offer microSD expansion. And the S7 edge has a slightly larger 3700mAh battery.
