Moto Z2 Play vs. Z Play: Specs and Features Comparison

Lenovo-owned Motorola Mobility launched the successor of Moto Z Play smartphone in the United States and other tech markets. The $499 Moto Z2 Play comes with Android 7.1 Nougat, a Moto Voice Assistant, and like its predecessor supports Moto Mods.

Enthusiasts can check the upgrades made in the Moto Z2 Play smartphone over its predecessor below. A direct specs comparison is made below giving brief about the differences between the two phones.

Display and Body: Both the smartphones sport a 5.5-inch Full HD AMOLED display with 1,920 pixels by 1.080 pixels resolution. However, according to Gadgets 360, the Moto Z2 Play has a slimmer look and measures 156.2x76.2x5.99mm and weighs 145 grams lower than the Moto Z Play. The predecessor has a measurement of 156.4 x 76.4 x 7 mm and weighs 165 grams.

Hardware and Software: The Moto Z2 Play is powered by a newly launched Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor clocked at 2.2GHz. The processor is powered by a 4GB RAM, 32GB/64GB storage, and Adreno 506 GPU. The Moto Z Play is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor clocked at 2.0GHz paired with a 3GB RAM, 32GB/64GB storage and with the same GPU.

According to GSMArena, the Moto Z2 Play runs on Android 7.1 Nougat OS with Google Assistant; Moto Actions/Display/Voice additions features. However, the Moto Z Play runs on Android 7.0 Nougat but with no Google Assistant; Moto Actions additions.

Camera: The Moto Z2 Play features a 12-megapixel rear camera with a 1.4-micron pixel sensor, an aperture of f/1.7, laser and dual autofocus lens and a color correlated temperature (CCT) dual-LED flash. The laser autofocus comes with expanded range up to 5 meters and 3 million dual autofocus pixels.

The Moto Z Play sports a 16-megapixel rear camera with an aperture of f/2.0, phase detection and laser autofocus, dual-LED (dual tone) flash. The features included are 1.3 µm pixel size, geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, panorama, and Auto-HDR. Both the phone carries a 5-megapixel front-facing camera.

Other features: The Moto Z2 Play features a 3,000mAh, which is less powerful than the 3,510mAh found in the Moto Z Play. The newly launched device also includes 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/g/b/n (2.4GHz and 5GHz), a 3.5mm headphone jack, Bluetooth 4.2, USB Type-C (3.1), NFC, FM radio, and GPS/ A-GPS. The sensors on-board are the accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, ambient light sensor, and proximity sensor.
