A perk offered by T-Mobile tied up to the iPad is no more. This is with reference to the “Free Data for Life” promo, a marketing ploy offered back in 2013 to help entice customers in getting the Apple tablet. All that came to an end last May 7, 2017.
Take note that the program has been cut only for new customers who plan to get an iPad from T-Mobile. Old subscribers can still enjoy the service for as long as they own the device, T-MoNews reports. Hence, existing subscribers can still enjoy the 200 MB/ month for life promotion.
For those unaware of this “Free Data for Life” promo by T-Mobile, it was part of Un-Carrier 3.0 and the reason behind the decision to cut the service remains unexplained. But a logical explanation could be in the form of technology. Unlimited data is useful but obviously, comes with limitations in terms of performance. One example would be watching streaming HD videos which would lag if the data connection is insufficient.
Instead, T-Mobile is shelving the “Free Data for Life” service with an unlimited LTE data plans for tablets. It costs $20 a pop with autopay and obviously a whole lot better in delivering services that require larger bandwidth. The new service offers customers a better option, technically delivering the right service customers truly deserve, PC World reported.
In short, the killing of the old service is all part of an upgrade to deliver proper service and not cheat folks who are obviously into the streaming binge these days. The only catch with the $20 unlimited LTE data is that folks will have to go all in with T-Mobile’s deals which mean future buyers will need to buy a bundled package made up of an iPhone and an iPad. The offer looks good, not to mention the opportunity to get a new smartphone and tablet in the process.
