PawBot Seeks Kickstarter Funding For Automated Pet Feeder Device

Feeding the family pets could be a chore for extremely busy people or an act of love for pet lovers. But even the most rabid cat- or dog-owner may at times have to be away from home for a few days or appreciate someone or something taking over the task once in a while. It is the purpose why PawBot was developed by its creators.

The developer of PawBot claims it is the first automated cat and dog wet food dispenser. It works by automatically opening a specific number of animal food cans and placing the food into the pet’s bowl at set eating times, Digital Trends explains.

The pet owner picks the time to feed the puppy or kitten by selecting when to feed the pet from a touchscreen LCD display. The gadget has a robot arm, automated can opener, storage space for 18 cans, and several clean bowls. PawBot washes the used bowls and dispenses the open cans. The creator of PawBot seeks to fund the venture by listing the gadget on Kickstarter. It aims to raise $8,000.

So far, the Kickstarter has raised $1,921 in pledges from seven backers, or 24 percent of its goal. The creator has 40 days to raise the balance of 76 percent. Pet owners who want to be the first to own a PawBot could pre-order the pet-feeding robot by placing a $140 down payment. The device, once out in the market, is expected to sell for around $3,000.

PawBot, in a blog, points out that since 1976, patents have been filed as inventors attempt to find a way to open and serve canned food to their pets without the need for a human to do it. With the robot, cats and dogs could be fed more natural wet food versus dry food that is suspected to be the cause of health problems such as kidney failure and diabetes for family pets.
