'Persona 5' Stream Restrictions Lifted, Atlus Allows Streaming Until November

Atlus drew the ire of fans when it set its foot down on the streaming for “Persona 5.” The publisher had initially set stiff measures when they laid down rules on which could and could not be streamed. Gamers were unhappy with the restrictions and Atlus is trying to make amends.

At first, Atlus revealed that it would not allow gamers to stream sections of the “Persona 5” after July 7, 2017. Considering that the title runs on a nine-month span of a Japanese school year, it meant that only one-third of the game can be viewed by gamers.

Atlus has now backpedaled a bit, changing the rules that would allow people to stream until Nov. 19, 2017. With the change, “Persona 5” went from one-third to eight-ninths which is a big difference as the main story gears up for its final act, Eurogamer reports.

It seems that there was a bit of a mix-up over in Atlus and the blame game has started on the “Persona 5” restrictions. The author singled out the “masters in Japan” for the decision and have fortunately realized of the effect it would have on its followers.

"We recognize that our fans are the reason why the game is the major worldwide success it is, and we continue to want them to be able to enjoy the game without fear of being spoiled," said the author via blog post over at Atlus.com.

The move to set stream restrictions for “Persona 5” was made to address copyright concerns. The rules were allegedly not solely about restrictions but more on etiquette in an effort to preserve the essence of story-driven adventure.

It is worth noting that Atlus has also lifted the 90-minute limit set for streaming “Persona 5.” Previously, Atlus set a limit on how long into the game one can stream, a similar effort to preserve copyrights of the Japanese role-playing game.
