Samsung Connect Home Set To Compete With Google Wifi, What You Need To Know

Samsung isn't satisfied unveiling Galaxy S8 and along with launching its flagship device, the tech giant is showing off a router. The device is known as the Connect Home Smart Wi-Fi System. Interestingly, the device reduces clutter in the home. It removes the need of a separate SmartThings Hub.

As of now, Samsung hasn't shared any information on its availability or price. However, reports suggest that it would either be sold as a single unit or in packs of three. Apart from this, a Pro version would also be available. SmartThings, a home automation company was brought in by the tech giant in 2014.

As per Android Authority, the Connect Home Router would have inbuilt SmartThings. This would allow the router to connect to Bluetooth 4.1, Z-wave, Zigbee and Wi-Fi. These include things such as Netgear Arlo, Philips Hue lights, security cameras as well as several Samsung appliances. The tech biggie is selling the router in packs of three is because it supports mesh networking.

The users can use Connect Home as a base to broadcast a signal and use the other two to extend the network, Engadget reported. Each unit supports a range of 1500 square feet and It is similar to Google Wi-Fi. The appearance of the Samsung Connect Home is stylish. It comes in a round square silhouette with glossy white finish.

Both the versions of Connect Home would include two RJ-45 Ethernet ports on the power socket as well as on the back. Even though there are several competitions, but Connect Home is unique due to its SmartThings Hub integration. Connect Home offers 512 RAM along with 4GB storage. It uses a slow 710MHz quad-core processor. However, Connect Home Pro uses a faster 1.7GHz dual-core chip. The Pro version too has a 1500 square feet cover area.
