Apple iMac 2017 Latest News, Update & Specs: Clues are Hinting April Launch Event is Imminent

Mar 23, 2017 09:51 AM EDT

Apple's last iMac update came in the October 2015, when the company had introduced a Retina-class screen resolution to the smaller Macs for the first time and equipped the larger models with new Skylake processor. It's been a while for the iMac update since then, which is why we're looking ahead to the next iMac launch - an early-2017 iMac update, hopefully.

Apart from September's regular iPhone launches, spring is the time when Apple normally holds a press conference to unveil new products. So, fingers are crossed with the hope that April will bring an event with new iMac 2017, according to MacWorld.

Apple did quietly updated a number of its products in March 2017, which includes a new 9.7-inch iPad, a new red color option for the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, and increasing the storage options for the iPad mini 4 and iPhone SE. However, still no new Macs were announced, because of this everyone is holding out the hope that iMac 2017 will appear on rather more high-profile event next month.

The Best Buy leak, which emerged at the start of October 2016, had strongly suggests that the retailer has had advance warning of a coming up launch and posted a listing a bit too early by mistake. Although it's also possible that this was a tentative listing created on the basis that it would probably be needed at some point.

On the other hand, in a rare Q&A session on Apple's internal employee network, Apple CEO Tim Cook gave an interesting response to a question about the future of the Mac, which is noted by TechCrunch. Question an Apple employee asked was, "We had a big MacBook Pro launch in October and a powerful upgrade to the MacBook back in Spring. Are Mac desktops strategic for us?"

So Cook had replied him by saying that, "the current generation iMac is the best desktop we have ever made and it's beautiful Retina 5K display is the best desktop display in the world and we have great desktops in our roadmap. Nobody should worry about that."

All these clues hints that new iMac is not far from us. Unlike the yearly or event twice-yearly update events we're used to for iOS devices, iMac 2017 have frequently come several years apart. WWDC 2017, which will take place from 5-9 June this, is therefore also a possibility for the iMac 2017 launch.
