Nintendo Co. announced its plans to produce no less than 16 million Nintendo Switch units starting April. However, fans of the Switch don't have to wait that long since a number of retail outlets and auction sites have been re-stocked with a limited number of Switch units.
The Wall Street Journal reports that Nintendo Co. plans to double its production of the Nintendo Switch due to the strong demand for the hybrid gaming consoles. The company released more than two million Nintendo Switch units during its successful launch last March 3 and they have been reportedly sold out a few days after its debut.
That said, the 16 million new Nintendo Switch units soon flooding the market may sound much, but fans of the hybrid gaming console must remember that Nintendo Co. has to supply consumers around the world. Also, the figures dangled by the company are reportedly just enough for 12 months' worth of supply. Meaning, if the demand on the Switch continues at this rate, the company may again have re-stocking problems before 2017 ends.
While fans of the Nintendo Switch can purchase the hybrid gaming consoles from certain resellers, they would have to shell out more cash to obtain the new Switch. A report from the New York Magazine reveals that the Nintendo Switch units are still available on some online auction sites such as eBay, albeit at an astronomical price.
GameStop is also reportedly offering Nintendo Switch units in two different bundles, also at a price higher than its original selling price. GameStop, a major video game retailer in the US, announced that they will be re-stocked with a limited number of Nintendo Switch units starting March 22.
As per ARS Technica, the Nintendo Switch units are being offered by retail outlets and auction sites for, on average, $440. When bundled with accessories and games, the hybrid gaming consoles could fetch up to $525 on average.
The decision to increase the production of the hybrid gaming console is an easy one for Nintendo since the company now knows that they have a smash hit on their hands. While the fans of the Nintendo Switch console can, if they are lucky enough, still acquire the Switch on certain online auction sites and retail stores, they will have to pay at least 47 percent higher than its original selling price.
If the consumers don't want to spend that much on the new hybrid gaming console, they can just sit back and wait for the 16 million Nintendo Switch units the company is scheduled to produce.
