Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 Update: Hybrid Tablet-Laptop Device Has Its Major Issue

Mar 16, 2017 06:00 AM EDT

Dell Company, one of the best laptop manufacturers in the world took the popular highly impressive Dell XPS 13 laptop and developed a detachable 360-degree hinge that connects the screen and the body which led into a hybrid tablet-laptop device. Tech enthusiasts now do go with pros and cons for the hybrid laptop version or the original one.

According to Venture Beat, Dell XPS 13 hybrid comes with a pretty cool design but there are some variations that were lacking. Dell XPS 12 2-in-1 features a thinner body than the original; with a weight of 1.24kg, it is heavier than the standard Dell XPS 13. The device was also equipped with slim bezels that make the Gorilla Glass screen look bigger and wider than the original Dell XPS 13.

Dell Company now uses USB-C ports on the hybrid Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 which feature ports for charging and supports full speed Thunderbolt 3. Reviewers discovered one of the most problematic features for Dell XPS 2-in-1 is its Power Button; located on the right side of the device besides its ports where it's hard to press. It's quite annoying those users must check the power light on the button to see whether the device has been switched off or not. Another issue is that Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 is difficult to pry open which lead to a head-scratcher.

For its performance as noted by Trusted Reviews, Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 features the 7th-gen Intel Kaby Lake Core i5-7Y54 processor that was supported by a 4GB of RAM and 123GB drive and an Intel HD GPU. These specifications are quite good enough but as it is compared with the standard Dell XPS 13 which was powered by Intel Core i5-6200U, with an 8 GB of RAM and a 25gGB SSD; the hybrid Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 needs improvement. It was also noted that Dell XPS 2-in-1 features a less impressive battery that only lasted up to 5 hours despite the company claims that it will last up to 15 hours; as a comparison, the standard Dell XPS 13 lasts up to 22 hours.

In choosing between the standard Dell XPS 13 and the hybrid Dell XPS 2-in-1, the game changer here is its price. Dell XPS 2-in-1 wears a price tag that costs up to $1,000 which is more expensive than the standard Dell XPS 13 base model that's worth $1,300. It's up to you what to choose between the two as it is noted that both these devices come with great specifications from one of the best laptop manufacturers in the world.
