The first quarter of 2017 is almost over and there is still no sign of the much-talked about Microsoft Surface Phone. There was great anticipation for it at the Mobile World Congress 2017 but nothing emerged in Barcelona, Spain. Despite the disappointment, it is not expected to stop folks from waiting for one.
With nothing to hold on right now as far as the Microsoft Surface Phone is concerned, the rumor mill remains the only source of potential specs. The latest one dished is that the Microsoft Surface Phone may add a foldable feature. If true, it could be a jab at Samsung’s own foldable device known as the Samsung Galaxy X. Focus on foldable phones may expand to other models as well with word that LG and Nokia have plans of their own.
Supporting that claim that the Microsoft Surface Phone could be a foldable device is the fact that the Redmond company gained the nod from the United States Patent and Trademark Office for a handset with a flexible hinge in January, the Marshall Town reported. For those familiar with the Microsoft Surface series, the hinges play a key role in transforming devices from a laptop to a tablet and vice versa. So could the Microsoft Surface Phone be as flexible too?
If so, this could be one reason for the delay of the Microsoft Surface Phone. A foldable phone would mean certain fabrications on other specs such as screen and overall design. So far, the word out is that the Surface Phone will feature a 5.5-inch AMOLED display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC, 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage.
A 21 MP main camera and front-facing 8 MP shooter will also be present with prices possibly starting at $699 for the base model according to Trusted Reviews. For those questioning its existence, do take note that Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella mentioned that they are working on an “ultimate mobile device”. By all accounts, it is believed to be in reference to the Microsoft Surface Phone.
