‘Mass Effect: Andromeda’ Multiplayer Tech Test Cancelled; Will Debut Gameplay Footage at PAX East Instead

Mar 02, 2017 09:01 AM EST

BioWare has officially canceled the multiplayer tech test for "Mass Effect: Andromeda. This has been promised with the upcoming release of "Mass Effect: Andromeda" and for those who have long service medals since the "Mass Effect 3" multiplayer mode. Obviously, this news disappointed a lot of excited fans.

VG 247 reports that for those who might be asking if the multiplayer tech test for "Mass Effect: Andromeda" had been moved to a later date and when that would be, the short answer is never. BioWare says on its official website that while they will still have live multiplayer at PAX East, there will no longer be a multiplayer tech test for players who stay at home. They expressed their thankfulness for everyone who signed up and looks forward to seeing them in Andromeda.

Also, BioWare will hold a panel at PAX East where it plans to show off never before seen gameplay. This panel will take place on March 10 at 4 p.m. and will be streamed live for everyone to see.

Many players have already spent some time trying to reconcile their BioWareID with the old EA ID and even their Origin ID to work, which had been associated with hundreds of hours of multiplayer game time from "Mass Effect 3." It looks like it will take some time before players can get their first look at "Mass Effect: Andromeda."

IGN reports that last year, game director Mac Walter talked about how multiplayer influences the campaign mode of "Mass Effect: Andromeda." He says that they already knew that multiplayer would be a big part of Andromeda. Thus, they started to couple the single and multiplayer modes from the beginning. This is to make sure that they deliver a cohesive experience.

Bioware had confirmed way back in November 2016 that "Mass Effect: Andromeda" would have a multiplayer mode. The developer had already allowed people to sign up ahead of time for the pre-release play period which was shown on its website. As to what will be different in the multiplayer gameplay, new enemy types will be thrown at a player that will force him or her into or out of cover, instead of just staying put in one place.
