Samsung Galaxy Xcover 4 Officially Announced; Meant for Rugged Outdoor Use

Samsung unveiled it's another addition to Xcover family, the Samsung Galaxy Xcover 4. A few hours ago, the Galaxy Xcover 4 was spotted in an official FCC listing, which is traditionally an indicative of an impending release. However this time Samsung seems to have broken some kind of speed record, as the handset is already up on its German website.

The Samsung Galaxy Xcover 4 is a rugged smartphone that is meant for rugged outdoor use. The device will be releasing in the April for €259, which is approximately $273, according to Samsung's newsroom (German).

Like its predecessors, the Xcover 4 is designed keeping durability in mind. The device is IP68 certified, which means that it can withstand prolonged immersion in water at depths of up to 1.5 m, and is fully resistant to dust.

Furthermore, the Galaxy Xcover 4 can sustain quite the beating and work in extreme temperatures, both low and high, as surfeited by its US military rating (standard MIL-STD 810G). The Samsung Xcover 4 does not offer cutting edge specs, as this happens in the case of most rugged devices, As per Phone Arena.

According to press release on Samsung's Newsroom (German Website), the Galaxy Xcover 4 will be equipped with a 4.99-inch 720p TFT display which will be backed by a 1.4 GHz quad-core CPU, a 2GB of LPDDR3 RAM, and 16GB of internal storage (10.1GB available for use), which is expandable via MicroSD cards of up to 256GB. The Xcover 4 is powered by a 2,800 mAh battery and running on the latest Android 7.0 Nougat.

Samsung Galaxy Xcover 4 features a 13MP primary camera that is coupled with a 5MP selfie camera. Samsung claims that the rear-facing camera is capable of taking pictures even in very difficult conditions, because of phone's military grading and the camera's high sensitivity to light.

In addition to surviving in cold temperatures, the Galaxy Xcover 4's touchscreen can be used with gloves. The device also has mechanical buttons at the bottom of the display for navigation, CNET learned.

At present Galaxy Xcover 4 is only having one color option, which is black. No official word yet on the exact release date and availability of smartphone.
