Secret will be coming soon to the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. The app was released privately within Silicon Valley over the next two months. It started receiving press coverage in early February 2014, where it was revealed that the company had raised $1.4 million from Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Google Ventures, Alexis Ohanian and Garry Tan through their Initialized Capital vehicle, Index Ventures, Matrix Partners, SV Angel, and Fuel Capital. A number of technology news websites billed Secret as the latest craze in Silicon Valley.
Speaking to TechCrunch on Monday, Secret co-founder Chrys Bader-Wechseler said the Android app is "on the way." According to CNET, Secret is one of a number of startups aimed at allowing people to share their thoughts anonymously with friends and the public. Whisper, another secret-sharing app, raised $30 million in funding last month on a $200 million valuation.
Secret’s App is valued at $40 Million. The anonymous messaging app, confirmed as first reported by The Wall Street Journal last month, that it has raised nearly $10 million in fresh capital. There were $8.6 million in funds raised from several investors including Google Ventures, Initialized Capital, and Kleiner Perkins Caufield Byers. The WSJ also reported Secret’s App as securing a valuation of about $40 million, not including the investment.
According to recent reports in the WSJ, Secret is set to raise almost $10 million of venture capital in a deal valuing the young startup at more than $40 million, according to people familiar with the matter. Only about five weeks ago, Secret’s app launched to fanfare, especially among the tech community in Silicon Valley who feverishly used the app to gripe about startups, dish about their lives and gossip about colleagues. A week after appearing in the App Store, Secret cracked the top-20 ranking of free social apps.
