Sprint's New Wireless Speaker Costs $300

Wireless speakers have become something of a fad recently, with numerous high-quality options out there that allow users to blast their favorite tunes from their phones via Bluetooth. Now, it looks like Sprint is looking to join the mix, offering a wireless speaker of its own through a collaboration with Harman Kardon.

The new speaker will be called the Harman Kardon Onyx Studio and will retail for a pretty mind-blowing $399.99. Though Harman Kardon is known for high-quality audio, the Onyx Studio costs more than double what Jawbone’s Jambox and Beats’ Pill sell for, at $150 and $200, respectively.

“For many customers the smartphone is their primary music experience, so offering all the devices that surround that experience is important,” said David Owens, vice president of Product, Sprint in a press statement. “Sprint plans to extend its offerings in premium music devices, apps and accessories such as speakers and headphones, and we are excited to collaborate with Harman Kardon to offer Onyx Studio exclusively in the U.S.”

Sprint hopes that the new speaker offering will help sell customers on new and existing music services offered in the Sprint Zone app store, including iHeartRadio, Sprint Music Plus, Spotify and Shazam.

“We are pleased to offer Sprint and their customers the Harman Kardon Onyx Studio speaker that seamlessly blends audio excellence with Bluetooth wireless convenience,” said Michael Mauser, president of Harman Lifestyle. “With a sleek, compact design and unparalleled and powerful acoustics, the Harman Kardon Onyx Studio is the ideal solution for today’s mobile customers who want to elevate their digital music playback to a premium, yet portable, audio experience.”

Folks interested in picking up the Harman Kardon Onyx Studio wireless speaker system can order one online or stop into an official Sprint store for more information. The speaker should be available as of Tuesday.
