Samsung Opens Showroom At Olympic Village

Samsung is devoting quite a bit of resources for the 2014 Sochi Olympic Winter Games. The company has already announced a new app to help viewers track their favorite sports and athletes and is the official sponsor of the Jamaican bobsleigh team.

On Wednesday, Samsung execs along with Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova were on hand at the sponsor village in Olympic Park to unveil the Samsung Galaxy Studio, the company’s flagship showroom in Sochi.

“We invite athletes and fans to visit our Galaxy Studios and enhance their time at the Games through our people-inspired technologies and exciting interactive experiences. Mobile devices have become an important way through which people enjoy the Olympic Games, and Samsung is introducing new approaches for spectators to become active participants of the Games through our technology,” said Younghee Lee, executive vice president of global marketing, IT & mobile division at Samsung Electronics in a press statement.

Samsung says visitors to the Galaxy Studio will be able to cheer on athletes through the ChatON app as well as participate in a range of activities. For the most part though, our guess is that the primary function of the Galaxy Studio will be to advertise products like the Note 3, which will be displayed prominently.

“I’m thrilled to join Samsung in the opening of its Galaxy Studio in the Olympic Park and delighted to be a part of today’s celebration that symbolizes the start of Samsung’s onsite Sochi 2014 campaign,” said Maria Sharapova. “As an athlete myself, I appreciate Samsung’s efforts to provide personalized Games Time experiences to fellow Olympians and also fans through a variety of Studio experiences that help us all get the most out of the Games.”

According to the company, the Galaxy Studio is comprised of 16 reusable structures that were shipped into Sochi and assembled in Olympic Park. After the conclusion of the Winter Games, Samsung says the structures will be disassembled and redistributed for reuse.
