Installing Android 4.1.1 CM10 ROM On HTC Desire

Dec 23, 2013 10:57 AM EST

The HTC Desire is pretty far down the hierarchy of handsets likely to ever receive another major firmware update from the company, but fortunately XDA Developer bWorks dropped a CM10 ROM based on Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean for the Desire some time back.

This guide will walk you though the installation process for CM10 on the HTC Desire. As always, DroidReport assumes no liability for the firmware installation. Proceed with caution.

Before Getting Started

Do not use this guide for any device other than the HTC Desire. Flashing this ROM onto any other device will most probably result in a bricked phone.

You must have your HTC Desire rooted, with a recovery utility like ClockworkMod installed. As always, you want to backup your device and charge it to at least 80 percent.

Finally, enable USB Debugging mode by navigating to Settings -> Developer Options.

Updating HTC Desire to Android Jelly Bean 4.1.1 via CM10 ROM

1) Download the Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean CM10 ROM, which includes the Google Apps package preinstalled. The ROM file can be found here .

2) Using your USB cable, connect your HTC Desire to your computer.

3) Copy CM10 custom ROM to the root folder of your handset’s SD card. Do not extract either.

4) Restart your phone into Bootloader mode by pressing the Volume Down and Power buttons simultaneously. Use the volume keys to select Recovery.

5) Perform a Nandroid backup of your device.

6) In CWM recovery, navigate to “Format system” in the Mounts and Storage submenu, and then press “Yes.” Next, navigate to the Advanced submenu and select “Wipe Dalvik Cache.” Select “Yes” when prompted.

7) Navigate to “Install Zip from SD card” and select the ROM file copied earlier.

8) After the installation is complete, press “Go back” and then select “Reboot system now” to restart your phone. This may take some time.

9) After restarting, your HTC Desire will officially be running Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean CM10 ROM. Kudos.
