“Top 10” Winners (and losers) of US Mobile e-Retail

With over 100 million smartphone owners, mobile consumers want simplicity and speed. By 2014, worldwide mobile commerce will reach $352.7 billion according to Forrester Research. Read our top ten 2013 list of the best and worst mobile e-Retailers.

Here are the “Top 10” mobile eCommerce sites make shopping easy for smartphones and tablets:

  1. Staples Staples allows new customers to make purchases using a guest checkout but does offer registration during the transaction. It also speeds up the process by pre-populating the billing address and shows a progress bar so customers know how many more screens they have to complete.

  2. Starbucks Starbucks offers the Android Rewards app. complete with gift card and search features.

  3. Walmart The pages are extremely basic and as a result are extremely clean while easy to navigate.

  4. 1800Contacts The 1800Contacts App is innovative. With just 3 taps, you can order contact lens for delivery.

  5. Office Depot Depot forces customers to setup an account, but has one of the quickest checkout processes.

  1. Sears Sears is very clean and uncluttered. Form filling is kept to a minimum, and it also has a progress bar to let you know that there are only three stages to completion. It is the only retailer on this list that accepts PayPal

  2. Netflix There is also a mobile site which allows shoppers to watch movies online.

  3. Best Buy Best Buy overall the process is quick, and it displays a progress bar and security reassurances.

  4. OfficeMax OfficeMax offers a quick and easy guest checkout process that only has three screens before completion. It offers security reassurances and a freephone number on each page.

  5. Newegg Computers and electronic retailer Newegg offers a very fast mobile checkout.

There were key criteria points for these sites. All of the top sites were incredibly user friendly, easing frustration for the customer. Forms were removed of any unnecessary fields or pre-populated for mobile shoppers. Websites had displayed contact details and security reassurances. Alternative payment can mean a faster process, easing security worries.
