The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus are not due until April with most eager to see the new features. One feature that stands out is the virtual reality platform for the next flagship though it may be limited to the Samsung Gear VR-powered by Oculus software technology.

While that should be something, most are wondering if the Daydream virtual reality platform could be compatible with the Samsung Galaxy S8 or S8 Plus. The app is part of the Android Nougat OS, an application that allows compatible phones to venture into the realm of virtual reality.

Outside of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus, there are several devices that shown of Daydream compatibility. That includes the Huawei Mate 9 Pro and the Mate 9 Porsche Design, Android Headlines reported. The Samsung flagships could open doors but it would be through a different route – that of which is through rooting.

All that should come in by April once the Samsung Galaxy S8 and the S8 Plus come out in the open. Techies will look into the possibilities of tinkering with the system permissions and see how they can get the Daydream app to work. Anything is possible once rooting is achieved. Once done, the effort is expected to open the possibilities for the Daydream app that would include games and movies.

Right now, the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus cannot access the Daydream apps as a result of limitations tied up to the Samsung Gear VR, 9 to 5 Google reported. That could change moving forward, giving owners wider options to enjoy virtual reality.

Until that time comes, Samsung Galaxy 8 and 8 Plus owners have no recourse but to settle for the Gear VR. Samsung is expected to launch the new Gear VR controller with the Gear VR headset will help make up for that virtual reality craving once it official launches on April 21.
