When it comes to SUVs, there is no such thing as too many. True enough, Land Rover has just added a fourth nameplate to its Range Rover Family. The 2018 Range Rover Velar has just been teased and the public just had access at the first look at this vehicle.

The 2018 Range Rover Velar is a stylish and very capable SUV that would sit in between the midsized Range Rover Sport and the small crossover type Evoque, notes NY Daily News. This provokes additional versatility to the British luxury automaker's already versatile lineup. While that may be the case, this new vehicle can deliver more than its looks.

The 2018 Range Rover Velar is based on the same platform as the Jaguar F-Pace, which debuted to positive fanfare in 2016. The velar is a very close replica of its cousin since it shows off a design that is very distinctly Range Rover while being something of its own at the same time. Some notable features include flat-folding deployable door handles which are a first in its segment.

The 2018 Range Rover Velar also features ultra-thin LED headlights and burnished copper detailing, which all feature to promise to influence the other Range Rovers to come in the future. On the inside, this SUV has a pair of sleek 10-inch touch screens that control the infotainment and climate controls. There is also a heads-up display that projects a digital odometer on the windshield just in front of the driver.

The 2018 Range Rover Velar's exterior was designed by Italian Massimo Frascella, who had worked with McGovern at Lincoln in the early 2000s. One can see some hints of McGovern and Frascella's Lincoln in the Velar's sheer proportions and details. The roofline might be relatively low, but the Velar can provide 34.4 cubic feet of cargo room behind the second row of seats.

Motor Trend reports that the Range Rover Velar has a name that goes right into the very roots of Land Rover's dynasty. Velar is Latin for veil or hide and it was the name which was used on prototypes of the original Range Rover which were sent out for real world testing way back in the 1960s. These cars look very basic and different from the workhorse trucks that the company executives figured if they used different badges, nobody would notice that it was their secret SUV.
