Gigabyte Reveals Two New Overclocked RX 550 Cards For Budget Gaming

Gigabyte has added a couple of video cards for the RX 500 GPU series. There are currently two models for the starting graphics card. The RX 550 D5 2G is the base Gigabyte model, and there also is an overclocked model called the RX 550 Gaming OC 2G.

Both of these cards are aimed at casual gamers who play games like DOTA 2, OverWatch and the likes. The cards are meant for extremely low budget PC gaming only and are not as powerful as the top of the RX 580. As such, for current AAA games, it does not pull a constant 60FPS.

The OC version of the card is clocked at a 1,219 MHz while the base version of the Gigabyte RX 550 is clocked at 1,195 MHz. Gigabyte has applied a new cooling solution to overclock these cards beyond their factory versions. Both the cards are new and have debuted in April 2017.

Digital Trends reports that for achieving overclocked speeds on the Gigabyte RX 550 and the RX 550 OC, Gigabyte has used their proprietary Wind Force cooling solution. The Wind Force technology relies on anti-turbulence inclined fans which are pulse width modulated, and it also makes use of a pure copper heat pipe touching the GPU chip.

Gigabyte has put forward claims of more than 23 percent of effective cooling compared to stock RX 550 video cards and has attributed to this efficiency to the 3D cooling and Wind Force solution. The best thing about the fans is that they only start spinning when the card gets very hot during gaming and home video enhancement tasks.

Gigabyte is known for its class leading durable construction, and both the cards are of a durable construct. According to Tom's Hardware, this construction heavily relies on solid capacitors and metal chokes.

The Gigabyte RX 550 and the RX 550 OC both have CrossFire, FreeSync and Eyefinity technology from AMD. They also have a lot of performance updates to get that will increase the average FPS in many games and will also keep the heating in check.

For further overclocking, the AORUS Graphics Engine utility is provided with the video card. This enables the user to tweak the card to get the maximum performance out of it. The Gigabyte RX 550 D5 2G and the Gigabyte RX 550 Gaming OC 2G retails at a price of $80 and $90 respectively.
