Microsoft Surface Book 2 Will Not Be Launched at Spring Hardware Event, Says Report

Microsoft has long been rumored to hold a spring 2017 hardware event, but the company still not announced any such plans as of now. However, the latest report claims that Microsoft will be going to host a hardware event in spring, but does not plan to launch the Surface Book 2. The report also claims that the successor to the Surface Book is not yet ready.

According to a report from ZDNet, Microsoft will be holding a Surface hardware event, regardless of the Surface Book 2 reportedly not ready to appear at the press event. Company typically holds its Surface hardware events in New York; however, the software giant has not yet officially announced their plans for a spring hardware showcase.

Another report from DigiTimes claims that the Microsoft Surface Book 2 is said to ditch the 2-in-1 design, and it seems that it will be a regular laptop with no detachable or 360-degree hinge which can transform the laptop into a tablet, support it in tent mode and also be able to use it flat on a table top. Design wise, that's very disappointing, but the Microsoft Surface Book 2 will be cheaper which will start at $1,000, as per NDTV.

However, ZDNet claims the successor to the Surface Book 2 won't be launch at this spring hardware event as it's "not quite ready yet." It's not clear why Microsoft isn't ready to unveil the Surface Book 2, or whether the device has been delayed. Microsoft had originally launched the Surface Book in October 2015, and the tech giant introduced a performance base option last October.

Microsoft might be planning to launch an entirely new Surface category. A mobile Surface device is doubtful, but if Microsoft claims a clamshell laptop design is a new category for its Surface devices then that might explain the DigiTimes' report. We are still waiting to hear official announcement a Surface-related event, but until then the next big news event is the company's Build developer's conference in May.
