Nokia 8 Latest News & Update: HMD Global To Pit New Flagships Against Upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8 Variants

HMD Global started the year right with the Nokia 3310. That device is, of course, a low-cost mobile offering, targets at developing countries. Looking ahead, the Chinese firm is expected to cover other market segments and offer a flagship device which most believe is the Nokia 8.

The word out right now is that Nokia plans to come out with two Nokia flagships which are associated with a possible Nokia 8 coming. The Nokia 8 flagships will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC, ironically the same chipset that the Samsung Galaxy S8 will reportedly carry, Chinese site MyDrivers reported.

That bit should be welcome news for the mobile phone buyers though HMD Global will have to address other features to capture their attention. One thing that most are singling out is the cameras the Nokia 8 may carry. With Carl Zeiss lens and PureView technology ruled out, there is no official word on how the firm plans to ramp up the built-in cameras for its future phones. Both technologies were not included when HMD Global acquired the Finnish brand from Microsoft, BGR reported. To date, HMD Global remains mum on whether upcoming phones will get impressive snappers similar to the Lumia series.

The baseline camera specs that HMD Global has to offer right now can be seen in the Nokia 6. It sports a 16 MP rear camera and an 8 MP front-facing shooter. It would be wise to note that the Nokia 6 is a mid-range device so the Nokia 8 should sport something better like maybe dual camera technology.

Other than the camera, the two Nokia 8 flagship phones could be best served with higher RAM and possibly advanced biometric features (with reference to Iris or Fingerprint scanning) and more. Considering HMD Global has just broken the ice with the Nokia 3310, aiming higher could eventually work to their advantage as they slowly join the crowded mobile phone market.
