HMD Global, the Finnish start-up that owns the rights to sell Nokia-branded smartphones, has confirmed that the Nokia 6, Nokia 5 & Nokia 3 will get the upcoming Android O update. The company says all the three devices will be updated to Android O.

A spokesperson of HMD Global, who got in touch with TechRadar, told the publication that Nokia 6, Nokia 5 & Nokia 3 will get the Android O update once the new release is available from Google. However, it's still unclear on when HMD Global plans to release Android O for Nokia 6, Nokia 5 & Nokia 3, that's because Google hasn't released Android O to the public yet.

Google is yet tinkering with Android O, it is scheduled to launch sometime the third quarter of this year. And then it will take some time for HMD to port the new OS over Nokia 6, Nokia 5 & Nokia 3. However, it should be noted that the company did not commit to any time frames, as reported by GSM Arena. There is a potential silver lining for the Nokia 6, Nokia 5 & Nokia 3 though, as they run an almost stock version of Android 7 that should make the switch to Android 8 quicker and easier.

Nokia 6 was HMD Global's first smartphone that was released in China in January this year. Later, in February, the tech giant released Nokia 5 and Nokia 3 during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. At the launch, Nokia had said that all of its smartphones will run on the latest version of Android, which simply means the devices will get monthly security updates.

Nokia 6 has a 5.5-inch FHD display and comes with a price tag of €229. Nokia 5, on the other hand, features a 5.2-inch HD display, Snapdragon 430 processor, 2GB RAM and 16GB storage and carries a price tag of €189. Lastly, the budget Nokia 3 will cost €139 and is equipped with a 5-inch display, MediaTek MTK 6737 processor, 2GB RAM and 16GB storage.
