When the new Moto Z2 Play would release this 2017, the smartphone would be a bit lighter and thinner. Along with the slimmer frame is a smaller battery. However, the phone would also have upgrades in terms of a Snapdragon 626 chip, and 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.

The original Moto Z Play used a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chip that runs eight cores at 2.0GHz, while the Moto 2Z Play would have a higher chipset with the same number of cores. But it is slightly faster at 2.2GHz clock speed. But its pair is still the Adreno 506 graphical processing unit.

However, Android Police reports that the Moto Z2 Play would still retain the 5.5-inch 1080p AMOLED display. From the 7mm thickness of the Moto Z Play, the new phone would be 6mm, while weight would also be reduced to 145 grams from 165 grams. Also shrinking is the battery from 3,000mAh from the 3,510mAh of the Moto Z Play.

With the reduction of the battery size, users of Moto Z2 Play would also experience a cut in maximum listed usage time to 30 hours from 50 hours, Venture Beat reports. But there is an increase in the memory and storage to 4GB from 3GB of RAM and 64GB from 32GB of storage capacity. The main camera is reduced to a 12-megapixel, f/1.7 sensor.

However, Pocket Lint reports that the price and release date of the Moto Z2 Play, to be powered by Android 7.1.1 Nougat, are still unknown. The upcoming phone is expected to have a relatively affordable price. The follow-up to the Lenovo-owned smartphone would come after the Moto Z Play, an Android modular smartphone, was rolled out in August 2016. Before it, Lenovo debuted several months ago the Moto Z which is known for its heavier and thicker unit, while the Moto Z Play is a mid-range version of the Moto Z.
