Motorola Mobility Updates: The Company Starts Distributing The Moto Z Play’s April 2017 Security Update

Recently, Motorola Mobility's Moto Z Play has started receiving the April 2017 Android Security Update, as what followed by reports that the device is running Google's security patch. The update was said to roll out for Koodo's customers in Canada through the tkpca software channel, while Brazillian users are able to download via the retbr channel.

According to Go Android, it's currently unclear whether the rollout of the new software package is even wider. However, that might not necessarily be the case seeing how Motorola Mobility usually resorts to staged releases as far as Android Security updates are concerned. This new software version will come with a build number NPNS25-137-24-1-9 which contains several fixes for specific vulnerabilities in the Android operating system running on the Moto Z Play.

The new update for Moto Z Play seemingly doesn't contain any major changes to the end user experience and it doesn't bring the Android 7.0 Nougat on the device to a higher version of Google's ubiquitous operating system. Even if the software package is now being distributed as an over-the-air (OTA) update, it seems that rolling out in stages or maybe it will take a while until all users receive a notification telling them that the security patch is available for download.

According to Tech Droider, owners of the Moto Z Play may try scanning for the update manually by launching the device's Settings app and try tapping the Software Updates option located in its About Phone menu. A user who originally reported about the availability of the update also uploaded the software package to MEGA so that anyone with the necessary know-how can sideload it onto their device.

For users who are interested in doing so can find the software link. However, no one can guarantee that an anonymously uploaded security update for the Moto Z Play is legitimate. Stay tuned for more details as the Motorola Mobility show more detailed information for its security updates.
