AMD Radeon RX Vega Update: AMD Is Working On Three Vega SKUs, Slowest SKU Is Faster Than GTX 1070

There has been a lot of buzz going on regarding the upcoming AMD Radeon Rx Vega GPU. The latest update says that AMD could be working on at least three SKUs based on its upcoming "Vega 10" silicon to make up for its Radeon RX Vega series.

Leaked 3DMark scores point to a device ID which is third in a series of possible device IDs of graphics cards based on the "Vega 10" silicon - the 687F:C1, 687F:C2, and 687F:C3. All three SKUs sports 8 GB of HBM2 memory. As per the leaked 3DMark TimeSpy scores, the "slowest" SKU is faster than NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 while the fastest SKU is in the same group as the NVIDIA GTX 1080 Ti.

However, other report says that AMD's long-expected Radeon Rx Vega may turn out to be pretty capable, even if not as powerful as Nvidia's top-tier offerings. A new leak of 3Dmark results suggests that it could be roughly as powerful as a GTX 1070.

The three AMD Radeon Rx Vega SKUs could differ with core configuration and clock speeds. AMD imprinted four SKUs out of its "Fiji" silicon, the liquid-cooled R9 Fury X, the air-cooled R9 Fury (with 12.5 percent fewer shaders), the SFF-friendly R9 Nano (full core-config, but aggressive power-management), and the halo dual-GPU AMD Radeon Pro Duo (1st gen). AMD could also take a similar approach with "Vega 10," Tech Power Up reported.

That listed card supposed to be AMD Radeon Rx Vega, at the benchmark has the Vega device ID (687F: clockspeedC1), which is what tipped off Guru3D to its true identity. The AMD Radeon Rx Vega card's score is comparable to the GTX 1070 test results Guru3D achieved in its own internal testing. AMD is said to launch its Radeon RX Vega series within Q2-2017.

AMD has been known lately to under promise and over-deliver on its range of GPUs and other products. Patrons are hoping that AMD will be able to present the AMD Radeon Rx Vega as a viable candidate for a high-end graphics card.
