Philips will partner with company, TP Vision. The Android TV will soon come to market available at the Google Play store offering applications. The company made the joint venture announcement at CES earlier this month in Las Vegas. Philips Android TV running on Android OS will be accompanied by a variety of Android applications.

Phillips Android App Google Play

Philips Smart TV Plus is one of the existing Android apps available at Google Play. This app requires Android to control their Philips TV over Wi-Fi. Enjoy millions of videos, images, and songs anywhere and share them with users. Easily search and find interesting content from many sources, including mobile device and home network, and watch it on an internet connected Philips TV or on any Android mobile device.

According to Accenture, Smart electronics and high-tech companies are forging and strengthening alliances and partnerships to capture new growth opportunities, fill capability gaps and get closer to customers. Accenture’s research on consumer viewing habits finds that fully 62 percent of TV viewers are concurrently using a computer or a laptop and 41 percent are using a mobile phone—messaging friends about a sitcom joke or fact-checking politicians’ claims. Coupled with the widespread availability of high-speed wireless Internet, today’s viewing experience is more interactive, more consumable and far more sharable in real time.

The company has a presence within the smartphone and tablet software markets and is expected to launch Ambilight Smart TVs in the Europe Q2 2014. The Android TV will also offer Smart TV features from Philips. Along with the variety of Android apps, the TV will also be offered with VOD services, a music player and digital program guides. "By 2015 already, the majority of our Smart TVs will be Android powered," stated TP Vision CEO Maarten de Vries.

The company recently announced its new brand positioning, “innovation and you”, which is related to Philips’ vision that innovation is meaningful by meetings consumers desires. "Innovation has been in our DNA since we introduced our first light bulb more than hundred twenty years ago”, said Philips Chief Executive Officer Frans van Houten. “We believe that the new brand positioning much better reflects Philips’ mission to improve people’s lives through meaningful innovation. Innovation is important to the company and cultivating consumer experience.
