LG G2 Event Injuries: 20 People Shot And Hospitalized By BB Guns During Promo Event For Free Flagship [VIDEO]

LG recently unveiled the G2 on August 7th. The phone is LG’s newest flagship and boasts high-end specs including the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor which makes it one of the fastest phones currently available on the market. The LG G2 is also rumored to be the basis of the Nexus 5, though that rumor has been disputed lately.

Understandably there was a lot of excitement surrounding the launch of the device, so LG Korea’s marketing campaign for the LG G2 “G in the cloud” event in Seoul probably seemed like a good idea at the time.

If you watched the video you can see that hundreds of helium balloons were launched into the air, each carrying vouchers for free LG G2 handsets. Some people in the crowd were armed with BB guns and opened fire on the balloons shooting them down to get the vouchers.

“Some were using BB guns to shoot the balloons. As far as I know, there were only some 20 security guards. LG should have placed more security personnel as the event was already promoted via social networks such as Facebook, Twitter and leading local portals. Some of the injured were hospitalized,” one blogger reported.

20 people in the crowd were injured prompting LG to cancel the event,

“We canceled events offering free G2 smartphones that had been scheduled in major cities nationwide, including Busan, due to safety concerns,” said LG which apologized and said that it would pay for the medical expenses of the injured. LG was criticized by some for not offering sufficient security, apparently only 20 security guards were present.

It’s unknown if anyone got the vouchers and if the vouchers will be honored. LG might be lucky that it didn’t try this in the US, there might have been real guns used.
