Microsoft has recently unveiled the fifth generation of Surface Pro series. The 2-in-1 laptop/tablet PC that serves as one leg of their Surface line of computers along with the Surface Studio, Surface Book, Surface Laptop, and Surface Hub.

The latest Microsoft Surface Pro starts at the price of $800 for the bare bones model and tops out at $2,700 for the Core i7 variant. Microsoft is marketing the latest Microsoft Surface Pro as a "laptop," but it doesn't come with the optional $160 "Type Cover" physical keyboard, so that's a bit odd. The $100 Surface Pen also isn't included with the device, and the cool new Surface Dial is also a $99 option. There's no mouse, either.

As noted by Digital Trends, performance-wise the latest Microsoft Surface Pro is good. The square-ish 12.3-inch display of the 2-in-1 is sharp, colorful and quick. CPU performance from the Core i7 CPU in our test unit was on point, and battery life was much improved, especially for video playback. Overall, latest Microsoft Surface Pro is a solid machine with great build quality and a lot of versatility.

On Geekbench 4 the latest Surface Pro (8,879) scored almost 10 percent higher than the XPS 13 (8,105) and the HP Spectre x360 (8,147) that also have Intel 7th Generation Core i7 CPUs. The latest Surface Pro smoked its competition on spreadsheet test by Laptop Mag a well, as it matched 20,000 names and addresses in just 3:13, versus 3:44 for the XPS 13 and 3:33 for the Spectre x360.

The latest Microsoft Surface Pro measures 11.50 x 7.93 x 0.33 inches and weighs 2.39 pounds (including the Type Cover). The latest Microsoft Surface Pro is noticeably lighter than standard laptops or 2-in-1s, even ones as svelte the 2.7-pound Dell XPS 13 or the 2.85-pound HP Spectre x360.

Connectivity on the latest Microsoft Surface Pro hasn't changed a bit. There is a one USB 3.0 port with an old-school Type-A connector, a mini DisplayPort, a headset jack, a Surface Connect port and a microSD card reader hidden behind the kickstand. That's pretty disappointing since there's no option for USB-C or Thunderbolt 3 ports that almost every other premium 2-in-1 offers.

At the end, other detachable simply can't match the Surface Pro's brilliant PixelSense display, simple but dynamic design and world-class inking experience. On high-specced models, the latest Microsoft Surface Pro's blazing performance is a huge boon to power users.
