Jan 12, 2016 01:11 AM EST

Exynos 8 Octa 8890, a high-end chipset that was announced a couple of months ago by the South Korean technology giant and the world’s biggest smartphone maker, Samsung Electronics, is the newest member of its Exynos family of application processors. Any device with this premium chipset is set to provide impressive mobile performance.  The company’s Vice President of System LSI marketing Dr. Kyushik Hong impressed that “The Exynos 8 Octa is a leading-edge application processor for next-generation mobile devices that incorporates Samsung’s mobile technology leadership in CPU, ISP, and modem as well as process technology. With our custom designed CPU core and the industry’s most advanced LTE modem, consumers using mobile devices with the Exynos 8 Octa will experience a new level of mobile computing.”  Exynos 8 Octa will be the first premium Samsung chip to combine the processor with the modem.

What then can we expect from devices with the Exynos 8 Octa? According to Samsung, Exynos 8890 will provide over 30 percent more power efficiency compared to its predecessor, Exynos 7 Octa 7420. Moreover, the same report adds that the new chip integrates the most advanced LTE Rel.12 Cat.12/13 modem that enables maximum download speed of up to 600Mbps (Cat.12) and upload speed of up to 150Mbps (Cat.13) with carrier aggregation.

Unlike Apple that has conventionally developed its own chips for all of its iPhone products, Samsung as well as its Chinese contender, Huawei, have alternatively between using their own chips and also those by other providers. A source indicates that Samsung will be using both Exynos 8 Octa 8890 and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820, chipsets that are rumored to power Samsung’s next flagship smartphone, which is detailed to be released by February, according to the AndroidGeek.
