Remix Mini Equals Tiny PC

Jan 07, 2016 04:55 PM EST

I prefer working on my laptop as I get to work with a bigger screen and, of course, a fully functioning keyboard. However, most of the apps that allow me to share a number of my files are on my other devices. For most people who encounter the same difficulty that I have, may find relief with the new Remix Mini, a device that originally costs $70 and can run Android on any screen using an HDMI input.

When Remix raked in $1.6M in profit after starting a kickstarter campaign in July 2015, what was earlier lampooned the previous year at the CES, is now the pride of Jide Technology. Jeremy Zhou, David Ko, and Ben Luk, who used to work on products like Google Maps and Search at the web giant, formed Jide Technology in 2014 to create a hardware that would combine the functionality of a laptop and a tablet. The company’s recent efforts resulted in the Remix OS, can be run on any x86 PC. Remix OS is also described as to work more like Windows or Chrome OS.

Remix OS can run on almost any device, for free. Just download the system image from the company, save it onto a USB 3.0 stick, or directly to your computer for a more permanent partition. You can use the OS within a few minutes.

Users can experience limitless multitasking within a familiar setting with an enhanced environment. For instance, when you’re on Remix OS, you can still see the taskbar where you have always want it to be, except that it allows you to do better with less effort. Want to switch between apps? You can do this either with a click of a mouse or by tapping an icon.

“It gives you a PC experience unlike anything on Android and an Android experience unlike anything on a PC,”Jide Tech claims.

At the moment, Remix OS 2.0 runs on Android Lollipop. It will, however, be getting an upgrade to Marshmallow soon. Either way, Remix OS is available worldwide for free, so it won’t really hurt if you decide to try it.
