Installing Android 4.1.1 Jellytime ROM On HTC Desire HD

Dec 23, 2013 10:58 AM EST

Officially, the HTC Desire HD is still stuck on Android 2.2 Froyo, but XDA Developer randomblame is more than obliged to get you all the way up to Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean via a custom Jellytime ROM.

While the Jellytime ROM enables a number of features like Wi-Fi tethering, it should be noted that it renders the headset buttons inactive.

This guide will walk you though the installation process for Jellytime on the HTC Desire HD. As always, DroidReport assumes no liability for the firmware installation. Proceed with caution.

Before Getting Started

Do not use this guide for any device other than the HTC Desire HD. Flashing this ROM onto any other device will most probably result in a bricked phone.

You must have your HTC Desire HD rooted, with a recovery utility like ClockworkMod installed. As always, you want to backup your device and charge it to at least 80 percent.

Finally, enable USB Debugging mode by navigating to Settings -> Developer Options.

Updating HTC Desire HD to Android Jelly Bean 4.1.1 via Jellytime ROM

1) Download the Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean Jellytime ROM, which can be found here.

2) Using your USB cable, connect your HTC Desire HD to your computer.

3) Copy the Jellytime custom ROM to the root folder of your handset’s SD card.

4) Restart your phone into Bootloader mode by pressing the Volume Down and Power buttons simultaneously. Use the volume keys to select Recovery.

5) In recovery mode, navigate to “Format system” in the Mounts and Storage submenu, and then press “Yes.” Next, navigate to the Advanced submenu and select “Wipe Dalvik Cache.” Select “Yes” when prompted.

6) Navigate to “Install Zip from SD card” and select the ROM file copied earlier. Repeat the same step to install the Google Apps package.

7) After the installation is complete, press “Go back” and then select “Reboot system now” to restart your phone. This may take some time.

8) After restarting, your HTC Desire HD will officially be running Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean Jellytime ROM. Kudos.
