Is this the beginning of a massive revolution in media? Connected TVs are reaching a tipping point. The convergence of disruptive technologies, Smart TVs and internet TV content distribution is still nascent. But the marketplace changes could innovate the existing standards. The democratization of video combined with technology tools that are lower-cost have influenced this transformation. The rise of digital content has also scaled the video industry.

On average every human being in the world will possess more than one Internet-connected video device by the year 2017 — a major milestone for the electronics market,” said Merrick Kingston, senior analyst, Broadband Technology, at IHS. “In practice, ownership of Internet-connected hardware will be concentrated among users whose homes are equipped with broadband connections. We’re quickly approaching a world where the average broadband household contains 10 connected, video-enabled devices. This means that each TV set installed in a broadband-equipped home will be surrounded by three Internet-connected devices.”

The future of Android and TV also is impacted by Kit Kat. Kit Kat was to influence TV and mobile video.  Android's fragmentation, with Kit Kat offering lower priced devices may cause unification. Smart TVs are still nascent but the opportunity to capitalize on the consumer market is substantial. Consumer rate of smartphone purchases are high.

The Galaxy S 4 can also be used as a remote, not just for your television but for your cable box as well. The device also comes with the enterprise software Knox. The device offers many features for advanced users and various mobile applications. Its rivals are also competing with smartphones in hardware. Galaxy S4 comes with a built in 13 Mega pixel, Auto Focus camera, Flash & Zero Shutter Lag, BIS Sub Full HD recording and other camera features.

Google TV leverages both Google Chrome and Android for interactivity. The device connects through an  internet connection and offers Android applications. Google is offering Smart TVs through the Nexus Q device.

TV media companies are adopting to Internet protocol (IP) video distribution. IHS states, “Big names making a foray into IP video include HBO, Microsoft, DirecTV and Netflix. Other devices will account for the rest of the market, including smart TVs at 5 percent, consoles at 2 percent, and smartphones and tablets collectively representing 67 percent. “ Open and closed distribution will be offered. Digital convergence is being transitioned to IP with Internet TV. Trends in convergence is expanding to interactive, advertising, media innovation and other media channels.

The wave of Internet TV will be influenced by Android, wireless networks, broadband, mobile devices and media. These areas combined and mobile devices which can cater to both internet and video will ease production costs. Digital content will expand to video and Internet TV. There are many opportunities here and for app subscriptions.
