Microsoft Surface Pro 5 Release Update: Microsoft Needs New Surface Pro, 2-in-1 Hybrid Might Launch This Fall

May 03, 2017 05:40 AM EDT

For the past months, Microsoft has been totally tight-lipped regarding the next version of the highly anticipated 2-in-1 tablet dubbed by many as the Surface Pro 5. Microsoft Surface Pro 5 should be a high priority for Microsoft now since it has just revealed that its Surface hybrid sales have declined over the last few months.

According to latest financial results by Microsoft, there has been a 26 percent decline in sales of Surface devices year-over-year. It is a contrasting picture to what we came across when Microsoft reported over the top sales during last year's holiday season. One of the primary reasons behind the decline has been the discounts on prices of Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book, as reported by Tech News Gazette.

Holiday season sales are understandable, but it looks like consumers are now waiting for Surface Pro 5 and Surface Book 2. Both the devices are long awaited considering the fact that both these devices are over a year old.

Satya Nadella has admitted in the first quarter of 2017 sales of Surface devices fell short of expectations, which is the primary reasons being the end of the product lifecycle and increased price competition, according to CNBC. With more and more companies joining the 2-in-1 hybrid devices bandwagon, pricing will definitely come down while hardware specs are bound to improve for any given price point giving rise to healthy competition.

Nadella also stated that the market has become highly competitive. And since Microsoft's devices carry a premium price tag, Surface revenues have suffered a lot.

The current speculations suggest that the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will be released in fall. Microsoft is expected to launch Windows 10 Cloud on May 2 during an event and possibly new hardware which runs the new Windows 10 variant and if that actually happens, Redmond will effectively be facilitating new competitors of its Surface Pro and Surface Book devices.

Many are waiting for the next installment of Surface series as Surface Pro 5 because performance-wise, the current device is one of the best in the market. Fans cannot wait to see the next thing that the Microsoft will introduce.
