Now that the original Naruto series has officially come to a close with the airing of "Naruto Shippuden" episode 500, the spotlight in the Naruto universe falls to Boruto in "Boruto: Naruto Next Generations" Season 1. Even before the spin-off anime series begins, fans are already speculating about Boruto's tattoo.

According to Droid Report, the first episode of "Boruto: Naruto Next Generations" Season 1 is set to premiere on April 5, 2017. And while it will take a few episodes before Boruto's tattoo is revealed, fan speculations regarding Boruto's tattoo have already surfaced.

The origins of Boruto's tattoo is somewhat a mystery and allegedly tied to a major plot point in "Boruto: Naruto Next Generations" Season 1. While a number of characters in the Naruto having markings, some of them are just regular tattoos serving as identifying mark to indicate a group to which a shinobi belongs.

However, some markings in Naruto are also a part of something mystical, and often, related to a shinobi's power. Case in point: the cursed seals in the original series.

The Anbu have tattoos on their arms. Naruto and Sasuke both have a cursed seal respectively placed by Minato and Orochimaru. That said, fans can expect that these markings will also appear in "Boruto: Naruto Next Generations" Season 1. However, the one in question here is the origins of Boruto's tattoos.

Otakukart suggests that Boruto's tattoo came from Momoshiki, the self-proclaimed god and main antagonist in "Boruto: Naruto Next Generations" Season 1. The latest manga chapter reveals that Boruto has already defeated Momoshiki. During their fight, Boruto's arm was injured. After the injury healed, a diamond-like mark resembling a tattoo can be seen in Boruto's hands.

Boruto's tattoo itself is unremarkable. However, its significance is potentially a major plot point in "Boruto: Naruto Next Generations" Season 1. During their fight, Momoshiki revealed that if normal human beings are able to defeat the gods, he or she stops being normal.

Following this line of reasoning, Boruto, having already defeated a self-proclaimed god, has stopped being normal in "Boruto: Naruto Next Generations" Season 1. Theories suggest that if members of Momoshiki's race are defeated, their powers are transferred to their conqueror.

Couple this with the fact that Boruto now sports the same markings as Kawaki, the series' first antagonist. This implies that Kawaki must have defeated a member of Momoshiki's race in the past, giving him god-like powers, and so creating a major plot point in "Boruto: Naruto Next Generations" Season 1.

As for Boruto's tattoos and its significance, Naruto and Jiraiya are covered with markings when at their most powerful mode. That said, Boruto may have something more to offer than the Seventh Hokage. The plot thickens in "Boruto: Naruto Next Generations" Season 1. Considering that it hasn't officially started yet, it looks like the Naruto spin-off is going to be a smash hit too.
