Latest updates reveal that Sony has announced that the final chapter of "Resident Evil" franchise will be released on DVD/BLU-ray version in May. "Final Chapter" is the sixth and could be the last entry to the franchise. Its home video version will be released on May 2, via digital stores. Meanwhile, the DVD/BLU-ray is set to arrive on May 16, 2017.

"Resident Evil: The Final Chapter" features the return of the franchise lead star, Milla Jovovich, who's back for the final go as, Alice the zombie slayer. Alice will be forced to return to The Hive where her story all began.

"Resident Evil: The Final Chapter" also features other franchise regulars like Shawn Roberts (Resident Evil: Retribution), Ali Larter (Final Destination) and Iain Glen (Game of Thrones). The final chapter will not be without new cast members, who would include Eoin Macken (The Night Shift), Ruby Rose (Orange is the New Black) and William Levy (The Single Moms Club).

It has been reported that the upcoming home video version will include a series of extras, with two featurettes, of which the first is titled "Explore the Hive," and the second is named "The Badass Trinity and the Woman of Resident Evil." According to IGN, bonus materials that will be incorporated on the Blu-ray, 4K Ultra HD, DVD and digital releases will include two behind-the-scenes featurettes.

The report states that in "Explore the Hive," viewers will receive a deeper understanding of the Hive and what Alice and her team had to endure in order to save mankind. Viewers will also see the female heroes elaborate on how their roles in "Resident Evil" empower women everywhere in "The Badass Trinity and the Women of Resident Evil."

Bonus materials on the Blu-ray, 4K Ultra HD and digital releases will also include a sneak peek at "Resident Evil: Vendetta." The featurette will explore the "Stunts & Weaponry" highlighted in the movie, and "Retaliation Mode," which will be another way for viewers to expand their watching experience.

It is also reported that fans will be able to turn on "Retaliation Mode" and enjoy up to 30 minutes with franchise director, Paul W.S. Anderson and Milla Jovovich, where the two explain pivotal scenes from the movie and the world of "Resident Evil." It is reported by Gamespot that across the six movies in the franchise, the "Resident Evil" movie series has achieved more than $1 billion at the worldwide box office, which makes it the most successful video game movie franchise ever.

Director Paul W.S. Anderson and Milla Jovovich have stressed severally that the "The Final Chapter is indeed...the final chapter," or at least for both. This is because there is a possibility that the series will continue with a different director and star.

There seems to be a huge business opportunity to make more "Resident Evil" films, reports stated. Box Office Mojo has revealed that "Resident Evil: The Final Chapter" has already made more than $300 million worldwide against a budget of $40 million.
