Android 7.1.2 Nougat Latest News & Update: Nexus, Pixel Devices to Get First Patch on April 3

Mar 18, 2017 08:01 AM EDT

The Android 7.1.2 Nougat will finally get a public release on April 3. As per the reports, Nougat update will be available weeks after beta build for Nexus and Pixel devices is released.

All Pixel smartphones will be receiving the highly-anticipated Android 7.1.2 Nougat update according to Canada's largest carrier, Rogers. Additionally, this update will also bring Voice Over LTE (VoLTE) including the latest security updates that is coming on April 3. With the VoLTE, users will be able to make phone calls using their Internet connection and will no longer have to be depended on the phone's signal.

VoLTE is not a new thing for Rogers because the company has been running same tests on the Pixel phones using the beta of Android 7.1.2 Nougat too. It can be recalled that the previous Android update did not enable the VoLTE feature, Android Central reported.

The release date of Android 7.1.2 Nougat update is further strengthened by a blog post which was made by Android's Vice President Dave Burke, which was released in January of 2017. He was conveniently quoted saying that Google is gearing a public release for two months.

Google dub the Android 7.1.2 beta for selected Pixel and Nexus devices as a boost maintenance released to focus on enhancement that includes optimizations and bug fixes. The 7.1.2 Nougat update also brought several improvements for users and carriers, as per Yuga Tech.

Unluckily, there's some bad news also. Google has confirmed news publication Neowin that the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 will not be receiving this update. Luckily, however, both Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 will continue to receive security updates.

On the other hand, Rogers' announcement does not confirm Google's plan to begin the Android 7.1.2 Nougat update around the same. But it looks like the search giant is most probable to roll out the update at the beginning of next month, around the time when it releases security bulletins, OTA images, and factory images.
