Microsoft Surface Phone 2017 Release Date, Latest News & Update: Upcoming Windows Phone Is Not Dream Phone Most Are Waiting For

Mar 15, 2017 06:47 AM EDT

Microsoft is reportedly coming out with a Windows phone, leading most to conclude that it is the long-awaited Microsoft Surface Phone. Before getting all excited, it would be best to note that it is plainly a “Windows” phone and not the dream phone were high on.

Instead, the Redmond company will release a smartphone that comes with features close to what the Microsoft Surface Phone will reportedly offer. Among the features of the said device include first elements and functions of the C shell. It will still be limited to apps available from the Windows Store, Gizbot.com reported.

Windows 10 Mobile cause of delay

Aside from that, information on the planned Windows Phone remains sketchy. As far as the delayed Microsoft Windows Phone, the cause reportedly has something to do with the Windows 10 Mobile platform according to a former employee of the company over at Reddit. Until that is resolved, the best time to wait for the Surface Phone may be 2018 or 2019.

The former employee also adds that this is just a temporary setback. Microsoft is not giving up on the Surface Phone, one that should spin off from the successful Microsoft Surface tablet series. Its existence was inadvertently confirmed by CEO Satya Nadella last month, further sending the consumer electronics world into a frenzy. It remains to be seen if they will come out with an official statement on the allegations of the alleged former employee.

Microsoft Surface Phone wait continues

With the Microsoft Surface Phone’s future in doubt, all most can do right now is a dream. Among the features, most believe it will carry include a 5.5-inch Quad HD display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC, 6 GB of RAM, a 23 MP rear camera with Carl Zeiss lens, a front-facing 8 MP shooter and running on Windows 10 Mobile.

Aside from those anticipated Microsoft Surface Phone specs, there is also the flexibility brought in by Continuum. Like the Surface Pro tablets, this hints at the Surface Phone possibly having the option to transform into a desktop-PC.
