‘Uncharted’ Movie For Adults Only? Original Writer & Naughty Dog Team ‘Have No Idea’ About Film Details

The upcoming movie adaptation of the popular video game "Uncharted" will unsurprisingly have an R rating. What seems puzzling here is that series writer Neil Druckman had confirmed that neither he nor the studio has any contact with the script writer of the live-action version. It appears that none of the people who actually made the game have any idea on the production's progress or where the story is headed.

In a recent interview with Collider, movie writer Joe Carnahan, whose previous notable works include "The A Team" and "The Grey," said that when he wrote the script for "Uncharted" he did not spare the rod. He reportedly penned it in such the way the video game version is. For one, the game involved a lot of swearing and all of that will be kept intact. He clarified that he surely did not write it as a PG-13 movie and made it exactly the way players and fans expect.

The writer said that he is very happy with the script and, based on what has been going around on their part, the people at Naughty Dog are generally pleased. He ends his statement by saying that all of this could be like Donald Trump hearing something that may not be accurate at all. This statement prompted Druckman to respond saying none of it was true.

On his official Twitter account, Druckman expressed his frustration that nobody at "Uncharted" developer Naughty Dog has actually read the script. At this point, they have no idea what the movie is about or what tone the film production team plans to follow. He also clarified that they know absolutely nothing about this coming movie and wishes that the writer (Carnahan) would stop implying that he has Naughty Dog's support.

While Druckman seems frustrated, Carnahan says that Sony appears pleased with the live-action version's script. He said that the script generated a big round of applause at Sony and everyone at work was very happy with it. If the studio does release an "Uncharted" movie, Carnahan wants to make sure that all the craziness will be faithful to the games. He says that Sony allowed him to "do his thing" and that he has so far written four of the biggest and craziest action sequences that he has ever done. The "Uncharted" movie was originally scheduled to be released in June 2017, but was removed from Sony's release calendar at around September 2016.
